I had an amazing opportunity to meet a man named Bryon Riesch in my PR Tactics class today. At the age of 19, Byron was at Marquette when an accident occurred causing him to become paralyzed. He was immensely determined to make something of himself no matter what, and that is exactly what he did. He established the Byron Riesch Paralysis Foundation which is a non-profit organization benefiting medical research for the cure of paralysis. He has raised over 1 million dollars towards his foundation since its start in January of 2001.
I feel incredibly honored that I got to meet Byron. He is well-rounded in every sense of the word. He has a great sense of humor, a wonderful outlook on life, and is the nicest person you will ever meet.
What he wanted to people to take away from his lecture, is that disabled people should not be stigmatized. He encouraged the class to get to know people with psychical or mental disabilities and to accept them for who they are; because many of these people are just as hard-working and determined as we are.
If you want to help out his foundation, you can find more information either on its facebook page or at
